A pipette is one-tenth of a pip. It represents a more precise unit of measurement used in Forex price quotes, especially with five-decimal and three-decimal pricing formats.
While a pip is the standard unit of change in a currency pair’s value (typically 0.0001 for most pairs or 0.01 for JPY pairs), a pipette allows brokers to quote prices with an additional decimal place for greater accuracy.
This added precision is often useful in high-frequency trading and scalping strategies where even fractional pip movements matter. Pipettes are mainly visible on ECN and STP platforms.
If EUR/USD moves from 1.10543 to 1.10553, that’s a movement of 1 pip or 10 pipettes.
